College of Information and Control Engineering was founded in 1960 and developed from its predecessor-radio engineering. In 1972, due to continuous recruitment of industrial mining enterprises, the electrical automation research and teaching office was established. In 1986, the Department of Automatic Control was established, which was later reorganized into the School of information and control engineering in 1999. The college was later relocated to the Information and Control Building of the Caotang campus in September 2019.

With years of development, at present the college owns four undergraduate majors: Automation, Computer Science and Technology, Communication Engineering and Artificial Intelligence. Among them, automation and computer science and technology were selected into the National First-class Undergraduate Major Program. The college also owns four authorized first-class Master degree programs which are Computer Science and Technology and Control Science and Engineering and eight second-class Master degree programs which are Control Theory and Engineering, Detection Technology and Automation Device, System Engineering, Pattern Recognition and Intelligent System, Intelligent Building, Computer System Structure, Computer Software and Theory and Computer Application Technology.

At present, the school has 97 full-time teachers, 12 professors and 40 associate professors, 75% of which hold PHD degrees. During the 13th Five Year Plan period, The school's teachers have won a total of 42 awards in various levels and categories of teaching competitions and advanced awards in teacher ethics and professional conduct evaluations; published 4 academic monographs and 3 Textbook. In 2020, the school was rated as an excellent school in undergraduate academic guidance, and two staff members were selected as members of the Provincial Education Steering Committee. The college has two centers: Information Technology Experiment Center and Computing Center, of which the Information Technology Experiment Center is the provincial experimental teaching demonstration center. The school consists of five research institutes: Institute of computer control, Institute of automation technology, Institute of computer technology and application, Institute of artificial intelligence and robotics, Institute of communication and information systems.

The school has more than 300 master students and more than 1500 undergraduates. In recent years, the school has won many honors in party and league construction, student training, innovation and entrepreneurship. The fourth undergraduate Party branch of the Institute of information control has been successively approved as the model Party branch of Shaanxi Province and the "national model Party construction branch" of the Ministry of education, the Youth League Committee of the Institute of information control has been approved as the cultivation and creation unit of "benchmarking colleges and departments of Youth League Construction in Colleges and universities across the province", and the 1701 Youth League branch of communication engineering has been approved as the "model Youth League Construction Branch of colleges and universities across the province". Organized seven first-class competitions, "China software Cup" and "Siemens Cup" were awarded the "best school organization award" and "excellent organization award" by the organizing committee. The students have won 236 national awards and 636 provincial and ministerial awards in total. Four of them have won the advanced individual of innovation and Entrepreneurship of the University.
