The Communication and Information Engineering major is one of the key majors in the school Information and Control Engineering. It is committed to cultivating high-quality talents with comprehensive knowledge and skills in communication and information engineering.

The major aims to cultivate high-quality talents who have a solid foundation in the basic theories and professional knowledge of communication and information engineering, as well as engineering practice and innovation capabilities. Students are expected to master the basic theories and methods in the field of communication and information engineering, possess the ability to design, analyze, and manage communication and information systems, and be proficient in applying communication and information engineering technologies to solve practical engineering problems. They are also expected to have strong learning and innovation abilities, and be able to adapt to the needs of scientific and technological development through self-learning and continuous learning.

The major is positioned to cultivate applied technology talents in the field of communication and information engineering. We focus on developing students’ practical and engineering application abilities, enabling them to engage in system design, development, debugging, and management in the field of communication and information engineering. Graduates can work in communication equipment manufacturing companies, communication operators, internet companies, research institutes, and other institutions involved in communication and information engineering. They can also participate in scientific and technological innovation and engineering project research and development work.

According to the development plan of the university, as a newly established undergraduate major in communication engineering at a local university, the positioning of the major follows the principles of “scientific positioning, clear goals, distinct characteristics, and high-quality talent.” The undergraduate major in communication engineering is positioned to focus on modern information and communication technology, integrating electronic technology and computer technology. It follows the trend of multidisciplinary integration in the information and communication technology (ICT), pays attention to the latest developments in modern communication technology, adheres to a broad-based and solid foundation engineering education model, and is based in the western region while serving the national communication construction and development. The goal is to cultivate high-level technical talents in communication engineering application and development with solid theoretical foundations, high engineering quality, and innovative spirit.

The core courses of the communication engineering major include circuit theory, analog electronics, digital electronics, signals and systems, electromagnetic field theory, microcomputer principles and interface technology, high-frequency electronic circuits, information theory foundation, communication principles, digital signal processing, communication network foundation, random signal analysis, modern switching technology, and mobile systems.

The department currently has 29 full-time teachers, including 2 professors, 15 associate professors, and 12 lecturers. Among the professional teachers, there is 1 doctoral supervisor and 22 teachers with doctoral degrees (accounting for 76%); 7 teachers have master’s degrees (accounting for 24%). They have won multiple awards such as the School-level Teacher with High Moral Standards, Young Teacher Model, Outstanding Teacher, Most Beloved Teacher by Students, Outstanding Graduation Design Supervisor, and Outstanding Internship Supervisor. Many of them have guided students in participating in national mathematical modeling competitions, the American Undergraduate Mathematical Modeling Contest, and the National College Student Electronic Design Competition, winning awards. Eight teachers have overseas study and exchange programs, and several teachers have completed domestic study and exchange programs.

In recent years, the department has introduced young teachers primarily consisting of outstanding Ph.D. holders from renowned domestic universities, optimizing the age structure, educational background structure, and professional title structure of the faculty. It has a dynamic teaching and research team with middle-aged and young academic leaders as the backbone.
