The Department of Computer Science and Technology was established in 1986, one of the earliest distinctive majors and key construction major in Xi’an University of Architecture and Technology. It obtained Subordinate Discipline Master Programs in computer application technology in 1990, and obtained first-level Master program in computer science and technology in 2006 respectively.

Leveraging the university's strong background in fields such as architecture, civil engineering, mining and metallurgy, the department has been rooted in the Northwest region and serving the entire country to provide talents for the development of strategic emerging industries, serving the national "Belt and Road" innovation strategy and national industrial strategic plan, and meeting the increasing development needs of the Northwest region, especially in Xi'an.

After decades of development and effort, the major has developed into a computer science department with distinct characteristics in teaching and research by leveraging the advantages of interdisciplinary complementarity, and has achieved results and reputation in the western region.

The major has cultivated more than 2,400 talents in engineering, technical, and scientific management since its establishment. Many graduates have become the backbone of national enterprises and institutions, distinguished experts in research institutes, IT companies, and industrial enterprises, and have made significant contributions to the development of the country, especially in the western region.

The department of computer science and technology has 33 faculty members, including 5 professors, 12 associate professors, 16 lecturers，73% of which hold PHD degrees.

It has passed the engineering education certification in 2019 January and has been approved as National First-class Construction Professional Point in 2020.
