The Communications Engineering major, based on the distinctive industry characteristics of Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology, is built upon communication theory, communication systems and technology, and network theory and technology. With a focus on information transmission and communication systems, it emphasizes professional directions in communication networks and exchanges, multimedia communication, and information processing. The program is characterized by the application of communication technology in important sectors of the national economy such as architecture, civil engineering, metallurgy, and environmental engineering. It aims to cultivate innovative applied engineering technical talents who are able to engage in the design, manufacture, operation, and research of communication systems in the communication sector and related fields.

According to the development plan of the university, the newly-established Telecommunication Engineering undergraduate major, as a local university, is positioned with the concept of "scientific positioning, clear objectives, distinctive features, high quality and strong capabilities". The Telecommunication Engineering undergraduate major is positioned to: Focus on modern information and communication technology, interweaving electronic technology and computer technology, in line with the trend of multidisciplinary integration in the ICT industry, focusing on the latest developments in modern communication technology, adhering to a broad-caliber, strong-basis engineering education model, rooted in the western region, serving the national communication construction and development, and cultivating high-level technical talents with a solid theoretical foundation, high engineering quality, and innovative spirit for communication engineering applications and development.

Key courses of Telecommunication Engineering major mainly include: Circuit Theory, Analog Electronic Technology, Digital Electronic Technology, Signals and Systems, Electromagnetic Field Theory, Microcomputer Principles and Interface Technology, High-Frequency Electronic Circuits, Foundations of Information Theory, Communication Principles, Digital Signal Processing, Communication Network Basics, Random Signal Analysis, Modern Switching Technology, Mobile Communication Systems, etc.

The Department of Communications currently has 26 full-time teachers, including 4 professors, 14 associate professors, and 8 lecturers. Among the professional teachers, 2 are doctoral supervisors, 18 hold doctorate degrees (accounting for 70%), and 8 hold master's degrees (accounting for 30%). Many have received various awards such as School-level Moral Education Exemplars, Young Teacher Exemplars, Rising Stars on the Podium, Excellent Teachers, Students' Favorite Teachers, Excellent Graduation Design Guidance Teachers, Excellent Internship Guidance Teachers, etc. Many have guided students to win awards in National Mathematical Modeling, American College Student Mathematical Modeling, National College Student Electronic Design Competition, etc., 8 have completed foreign study and exchange visits, and many have completed domestic study and exchange visits.

In recent years, the introduction of young teachers mainly composed of outstanding doctorates from famous domestic universities has led to a certain optimization of the age structure, educational structure, and title structure of the faculty, resulting in a vibrant teaching and research team led by young academic leaders.
