Evolution of the Major:
- In 1979, the department of Computer was established, responsible for offering professional courses for industrial and enterprise programs.
- In 1985, postgraduate program in computer began.
- In 1986, the department of Computer and application started to enroll undergraduate students.
- In 1990, the program obtained second-level Master program in Computer Application Technology.
- In 2002, the program obtained second-level Master program in Computer Software and Theory.
- In 2006, the program obtained first-level Master program in Computer Science and Technology.
The major was one of the earliest distinctive majors and was recognized as a key University-level construction major in Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology. Leveraging the university's strong background in architecture, civil engineering, mining, metallurgy, and other industries, the major focuses on industry needs and takes advantage of interdisciplinary collaboration in the field. After decades of hard work and dedication, it has established a unique character in teaching and research, achieved significant academic and research outcomes, and gained high recognition in the western region of China, making important contributions to talent cultivation and technological advancements in the industry. It received accreditation for engineering education programs in 2019, and was approved as a national first-class program in 2020.
The aim of the major is to cultivate applied computer professional talents who master fundamental theories, fundamental knowledge, and basic skills in computer science and technology as well as have healthy personality, patriotism, social responsibility, international vision and innovative spirits, and all-around development of moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetics and labour education. Graduates should be equipped with system thinking and research ability in computer-related fields, and engaged in computer application system analysis, design, system integration, operation management and maintenance etc. The core courses for computer science and technology major include Introduction to Computer Science, Fundamentals of Computer Circuits, Computer Organization and System Architecture, Discrete Mathematics, Data Structures, C Programming, Object-Oriented Programming, Operating Systems, Computer Networks, Database Systems, Algorithm Design and Analysis, Compiler Principles, Building Information Modeling and Applications.
Currently, the major has 35 full-time teachers, including 2 Ph.D. supervisors, 4 professors, 15 associate professors/senior engineers, and 25 teachers with Ph.D. degrees, and 2 full-time Laboratory technicians. Many have received various awards such as Excellence Teachers, Students' Favorite Teachers, Excellence Graduation Design Guidance Teachers, Excellent Internship Guidance Teachers, Baogang Education Award etc. Many instructed students to participate various national contests in computer field and received a great number of awards. 8 teachers went to overseas prestigious Universities as scholar visiting, and many have completed research collaboration and exchange visits among domestic universities.
In recent years, the major has introduced many outstanding doctorates from famous domestic universities, which optimized the structure of faculty in the aspects on age structure, educational structure, and title structure. Now we have a teaching team formed with young and middle-aged outstanding faculty with high academic level and reasonable organizational structure as the academic backbone and main body.
